1. The OBJECTIVES of this course are to:
• Develop students' reading and writing skills
• Provide adequate practice for students in using correct grammatical items and vocabulary
• Teach students the correct approach and techniques of effective writing
• Encourage students to use critical thinking skills effectively

2. LANGUAGE SKILLS & COURSE CONTENTS:

2.1 Reading : reading for information, scanning, reading critically
2.2 Writing : themes related to the topics
2.3 Grammar : Review of tenses & Passive voice
2.4 Vocabulary : words related to the passages
2.5 Mechanics of writing : essay plan, topic sentences, supporting sentences , concluding
sentence

3. COURSEWORK (100%)
Writing Assignment 1 60%
Writing assignment 2 40%

Note : 1. The final exam is compulsory. Students who are absent from the final exam will be given
a ‘0’for the subject. As such, they have to retake the subject.
2. Students will be barred from the final exam if their attendance is less than 80 %.
